Scientific Anglers Skagit Short is a compact floating Skagit shooting head designed for swinging streamers and targeting large fish, especially salmon, steelhead and trout. It is intended for freshwater use and performs well in cold to medium water temperatures.
Its very short design makes it especially useful with shorter Spey rods, when wading deep or wherever casting space behind the angler is limited. The head is designed to transfer power efficiently when fishing heavier sink tips and weighted streamers.
Unlike many conventional Skagit heads, it features a fully tapered belly that helps produce consistent turnover and smooth power delivery. This results in better control during the cast and a cleaner presentation of the fly.
AST Plus Technology uses an additive that continually diffuses to the surface of the line, helping maintain low friction and a slick coating even after extended use. This improves shooting performance while also supporting coating durability.
The black rear section provides strong contrast against the Mist Green body, making it easier to see the position of the head and identify the correct overhang before casting. The line uses a braided multifilament core designed for cold and moderate climates.
