JMC Yoto XPR 50 – semi-automatic fly reel
JMC Yoto XPR 50 is the larger model in the second generation of the well-known Yoto semi-automatic reel. It combines fast lever-operated line pickup, a Large Arbor spool and a CNC-machined 6061 aluminium body with greater capacity for more powerful and versatile river setups.
The semi-automatic mechanism can retrieve several metres of fly line or monofilament within seconds without conventional handle winding. The advantage is especially clear in Euro nymphing, but it is equally useful with standard fly line, in fast water and when moving frequently between fishing spots.
- semi-automatic system with fast lever-operated line pickup

- neoprene case included
Why use a semi-automatic reel for Euro nymphing?
When nymphing, a longer section of fine monofilament often remains outside the reel. The XPR 50 lever accelerates the spool and quickly retrieves excess line, making it easier to keep the setup under control and reduce loose monofilament catching in the current or on obstacles.
Greater capacity for more versatile use
With a capacity of WF5 + 50 m of 20 lb backing, the XPR 50 is better suited than the smaller XPR 30 to more powerful setups. It is a good match for longer and stronger river rods, larger waters and situations where you want fast line management together with the reserve capacity of a conventional fly reel.
Fast one-handed line pickup
The rod and reel can be operated without conventional winding with the other hand. A few pulls of the lever can quickly retrieve a larger amount of line – practical when playing fish, moving along overgrown streams or fishing actively in fast water.
Large Arbor and more precise drag
The large spool diameter supports fast line pickup and reduces coiling. The new XPR generation also uses a more precise and ergonomic drag control for fine adjustment to the setup and the fish.
Right- or left-hand operation
The semi-automatic mechanism can be operated with either the right or left hand without converting the reel. However, the lever layout may feel more ergonomic when operated with the right hand.
Recommended use
XPR 50 is suitable for Euro nymphing, conventional river fly fishing and techniques where fast reaction and immediate management of loose line matter. Its 3–6 class and greater capacity make it a more versatile choice for larger rivers and more powerful setups.
