JMC Yoto XPR 30 – semi-automatic fly reel
JMC Yoto XPR 30 is the second generation of the well-known Yoto semi-automatic reel, designed for fast and precise line management. Its lightweight CNC-machined 6061 aluminium body, Large Arbor spool and lever mechanism make it possible to retrieve several metres of fly line or fine monofilament in just a few seconds.
The advantage of a semi-automatic reel is especially noticeable in Euro nymphing, where excess monofilament can be recovered quickly with one hand and kept from drifting loose in the current. The XPR 30 is not limited to nymphing, however – fast retrieval is also practical when fishing a conventional fly line and when moving frequently along small, overgrown streams.

Why use a semi-automatic reel for Euro nymphing?
Nymphing often means working with a long section of fine monofilament outside the reel. The XPR 30 lever spins the spool without conventional hand winding and quickly recovers excess line. This helps keep the rig under control and reduces loose monofilament that could catch in the current or on obstacles.
Fast one-handed retrieval
The rod and reel can be managed without using the other hand to turn a conventional handle. A few pulls of the lever retrieve several metres of line quickly – useful when playing a fish, moving between positions or fishing smaller overgrown streams.
Large Arbor and fine-monofilament handling
The large spool diameter supports fast line pickup while reducing coiling. The ceramic guide is suitable for the fine monofilament systems commonly used in modern nymphing.
Right- or left-hand operation
The semi-automatic mechanism can be operated with either hand without converting the reel. The lever position, however, provides a more natural reach when operated with the right hand, giving right-handed anglers an ergonomic advantage.
Recommended use
The XPR 30 is particularly well suited to Euro nymphing, light nymphing techniques and delicate river setups. Its WF3 + 20 m of 20 lb backing capacity also allows it to be used with a conventional fly line for light river fishing.
