WHITING American Hen Saddle – hen saddle with distinctive Grizzly markings
Key benefits
- Longer, narrower hen feathers suited especially to wet flies and streamers
- Distinctive Grizzly markings remain clearly visible after dyeing
- Fine but strong feather stems help reduce breakage while tying
- Fibers are firm enough for flies fished in faster water
- Larger feathers can be used for streamer wings or burnt into shaped dry-fly wings
WHITING American Hen Saddle is a hen saddle from Whiting Farms' American Hackle line. The feathers have strong Grizzly markings, dyed in Red, Golden Olive and Pink in this selection. The combination of softer hen fibers and strong stems makes this material particularly useful for subsurface patterns.
The feathers are especially useful for wet flies, streamers and traditional trout, salmon and steelhead patterns. Firmer fibers retain their shape in current while the feathers remain lively and mobile. Larger feathers can be used as streamer wings and can also be burnt into shaped wings for dry flies.
