Crest and tippet feathers in one complete head
Crest feathers are long, narrow and naturally curved. Their bright golden-yellow colour makes them especially suitable for tails and for the upper wing covering traditionally known as a topping.
Tippet feathers feature distinctive orange colouring with strong black transverse bars. Individual fibres or complete feathers can be used for tails, wings, cheeks and other prominent parts of a fly.
For traditional and modern fly patterns
Golden pheasant feathers are traditionally used for salmon flies, wet flies and streamers. They are also suitable for selected dry flies, sea trout patterns and other attractive flies where their natural markings and vivid colours can stand out.
Well-known patterns using golden pheasant feathers include the Royal Coachman, Durham Ranger and Orange Parson.
What does 2nd Choice mean?
The 2nd Choice designation indicates a lower cosmetic grade. Some feathers may be less full, slightly irregular or show minor natural damage. The head still contains plenty of quality feathers that are fully suitable for fly tying.
As this is a natural material, individual pieces may vary slightly in size, shape, feather density and markings. Product photographs therefore show the general character of the material rather than an identical individual piece.
